Inspired Steps Ready for You

No eye has seen nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love Him. 1 Corinthians 2:9
How awesome is that!?! That dream, your heart’s desire that you put away should be pulled from the dust, shook off and worn! It IS meant to be that you will achieve. Dream Big! It is the dream that returns over and over to your heart and mind that is inspired and you CAN achieve…. You haven’t even imagined fully what God can do with that. Just plan and take that first step today… or maybe you’ve taken some steps… and are resting on the landing – not sure whether to head up or go back down and forget it. Take the step up. You are worth it… after all, it can’t compare with what He sees. So I dare you – take the step forward…. smile and let all see the twinkle in your eye.
I am grateful that today is a new day and that No eye has seen nor ear heard, nor the human heart conceived, what God has prepared for those who love Him.
I’m taking my step…….it’s your turn now.
Yeah!!!! You did it.

Attitude - You Already Measure Up

Please take a moment to sign up for the blog. http://gratitudeattitudetoday.blogspot.com/
Nicole Nordeman sings wonderful, soul-touching songs that speak to so many of our our heart's cries - part of one of her songs ....
It's a fear that keeps me wide awake, In the middle of the night
When the expectations are too great and the bar gets raised too high.

So I do the best with what I've got And hope that no one knows
That I strain to see how high I can Try to stand on these toes
Until I'm measured, but you know better

So thank You, Jesus - Even when You see us just as we are
Fragile and frail and so far from who we want to be
So thank You, Jesus - Even when the pieces are broken and small
Dreams shatter and scatter like the wind
Thank You even then
I can relate to standing on my tippy toes to try to measure up, and having failed (at least my own expectations). I can feel consumed with sadness, fear and a horrible resolve that as a failure, "it will always be this way" when in fact, every day is filled with new opportunity.
22 Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (Lamentations 3:22-23)
I can stand today knowing that I am loved and this is a new morning - fresh, clean and full of opportunity. We never have to fall into "it will always be" when we are promised otherwise each new day.
Enjoy a great new day and the song.....
Of all the "attitudes" we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude is the most important and by far the most life-changing. Zig Ziglar

Gratitude in the Midst ...Be a Spark

Today greetings and postings from a few of my favorite loved ones sent my heart soaring so filled with gratitude and love in the midst of uncertain times. I am truly grateful as I continue to walk through, work through, and be faithful on this path, in this season of my life.
For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:5-7)
Today in this new and wonderful day, I encourage you to take a gander outside at the beautiful blue sky - take in the color, think of those most near and dear to your heart and say “thank you.” It is a fresh beginning filled to the brim with opportunities to “get it right.” Today holds the key to tonight’s restful sleep and tomorrow’s success. So plan your “random acts of love” – remind yourself to smile (even if you don’t feel like it) and do one thing from your list – the most important thing today……. Have you put off a call to a friend who’s been on your mind? Have you let life’s concerns grab away at your time and remove time to regenerate and renew? Then today – do it! Just do that thing that came to mind and revel in the accomplishment of this day.

Look Up and Be a Part of a Miracle

I saw a movie over the weekend based on the story of a family that lost their husband, father and chief provider in the attacks of 9/11. The story centers around the young son who has Asperger's syndrome (an autism spectrum disorder) who believes that a key that was left by his father held the key to another piece of his father. It took him on an adventure so daring for such a young boy, that it was awe inspiring. He feared losing his father if he did not follow this path which led him to approach over 600 strangers, appearing at each stranger's door...meanwhile, without his knowledge, his mother figured out his system and visited each of the people ahead of time to ensure her son would be safe and to explain his mission in the event fear prevented him from articulating the reason for his visit. In the end he finds out that his mother had figured it out and he was further shocked to find that she could think like him. The revelation prompted sharing of their individual encounters with each of those visited and a bonding and road toward healing together (rather than slipping away in isolation) took place.
So many are suffering private traumas, no less devastating than those of 9/11, only without the publicity and camaraderie of community. Just like the mother in the story, however, we have a God who has gone before us, who has prepared the way and who defeated death that we might live. Help is never further away than a whispered prayer.
A song of ascents. I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2 NIV
Don't miss the privilege of being used to bless another. When you get an idea to do something for another, even if just a phone call, do it! You may be the miracle someone needs at that very moment.

Pray, love and give thanks

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them;
intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. -1 Timothy 2:1, NLT

I've seen so many people so wrapped up in their politics that they forget that the names they throw out so easily about their opposing party may be hitting a friend directly between the eyes. While there may be differing opinions, we can certainly still respect and love one another. There are so many hurting from such a wide variety of concerns, some very public and others equally private. Let's pray for one another...share our views with respect and love and give thanks for the very differences that give us the creative force to be able to come up with solutions working together, communicating in love and understanding. Make today a better day than yesterday and not nearly as good as tomorrow. God bless you.

Every Day Faith

Often of late, I've been in need of wisdom - for words, actions and direction. I know it is promised when we seek the Lord, but when referring to this promise, we are also called to have faith and do not doubt.
5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. James 1:5-8
The words of a wise man speaking on faith came to mind. He asked - what is the first thing you do when you walk into a dark room? We all answered pretty much in unison that it is to switch on the light so that you can see where you are going. He then showed us the faith we initiate when reaching for the switch and our expectation that the room will be illuminated. Certainly, we do exhibit faith every time we reach for a light switch. In fact, we are surprised if the light does not come on. It is with the same expectation that we should go before the throne with our request for wisdom...with the assurance that God will answer our prayer. Further, we should actually feel the relief as we know His answer is coming and He will reveal the way and illuminate our path. Certainly, God is not a switch to be turned or manipulated, but rather we should hold the faith we do when turning on a light switch in the One who Is and Was and Will be - the Alpha and Omega. He is so much more trustworthy than what we see with our eyes before us.
I hope today holds much light, wisdom and faith for you.
Please don't forget to sign in to the blog - I will be adding more soon. Meanwhile also enjoy this offering from the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdO2cRXVHII. Carol Cymbala wrote this song at one of her darkest hours - not knowing what was to come, but knowing her history with God.

Be a Spark Toward Love and Good

My folks forwarded a wonderful, true story to me this evening. It is the story of Delta Flight 15. They were on a transatlantic flight when the events of 9-11 unfolded and they were instructed to land at the nearest airport. They ended up landing at an airport in Gander, Newfoundland as did 52 other jets. This town and surrounding areas of 10,400 hosted some 10,500 passengers as they were stranded for days. They welcomed them into their homes, acted as tour guides, served them wonderful meals and befriended the people stranded there. The passengers of Delta 15 were hosted by the town of Lewisporte. Upon their return to the airplane, a doctor proposed that they do something for the town that so willingly, even lovingly, hosted them during our country's time of crisis. He proposed a college fund for the town's students which he would match. By the end of the flight, there were commitments totalling $14,000. As of the date the stewardess penned her experience over $1.5 million was raised and 134 students had gone to college on the trust fund.
The stewardess shared the story because she wanted to remind us all that people can be amazingly kind, loving and generous.
I was certainly inspired and I hope the story inspired you as well. In times of life's great challenges we can all be a gift to another providing shelter in the storm or gratitude for the shelter provided.
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good. Hebrews 10:24
Let's go out and change our world....spurring one another toward love and good deeds.

Sharp and Effective

There are friends I love spending time with because I am so energized by the learning and ideas that come from/within conversation. Those friendships also hold the safety and love within which to be honest with one another at a deep level where one may tell the other a hard truth in love. It is one of the ways God speaks to us and that we grow, becoming more effective individuals.
As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
Proverbs 27:17

God has blessed me with some trusted friends whom I can bounce things off of and hear an honest answer as to my part. It is an amazing privilege and incredible blessing. I am better for it. Hope your week brings one of these amazing synergistic conversations this week as you go forth sharper and more effective.

Blessings in the Midst

Today the clouds formed billowing into the sky...the wind came up, lightening pierced the sky and scent of water permeated the air. I've always loved a great storm, but admittedly, am not so fond of them in my life. But there in the midst of the wind, a tiny, exquisite hummingbird came to drink from one of the trumpet vines that grace my backyard.
hummingbird at trumpet vine.jpg
It was as if a lovely gift was being handed me in the midst of the storm. A blessing as plain as day that brought joy to my heart and ministered to my soul. It brought the same lovely warmth to my soul that this word given by a friend brought. John 16:33 "I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Indeed, He has overcome the world and sends gifts in the midst of our tribulation to remind us of that very thing. I am so very grateful for the amazing gifts of hummingbirds so small and heartwarming, the very blooms upon which they come to rest and the wonderful friends who share their stories and the Word to renew and encourage my soul.
What surprises did God bring to you today? What blessing did He write your name upon? Did you smile and say thank you?

Jackets of Friends

As the weather teases us between rain and bright sun – one day warm winds and another damp stifling heat – we are able to stand strong with a few adaptations. We may require an umbrella, a light jacket or experience the need to carry water.
Often the wind blows in our lives and we feel the need for safety and protection and “jacket” ourselves with a variety of things. Sometimes it is isolation, pushing away others; losing self in food, old movies or even shopping. None of those, however, will culminate in a new dawn of hope and determination.
“Jacket” yourself in the truth and at least one trusted friend. Often, in these times, we don’t see clearly without another to reflect back to us… even believing we “know” in our minds is often in error at those times…. We are hurt or afraid and need a hand not to push away others, but to embrace and be embraced.
Today – if someone has been treating you a bit differently or acting “out of sorts.” Extend your hand and a smile that welcomes… you may be the first to do so and it may be all they needed to be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel or to renew hope and faith.
1 Thessalonians 5:11Thereforeencourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
Lend a hand today, looking out from our busy-ness, my friend, and surely your time will be well spent.

Strength and Rest

Isaiah 41:10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

How I have needed those words of late...to know from the core of my being they are true and that I can count on that truth with greater certainty than the ticking of the clock brings comfort. Each day of the last week has held for me news of another illness, hateful act experienced, death, or despair of those I hold dear in my life.
What amazing instruction and assurance from our Creator. We have but one thing to do...to use our will to decide to believe. To choose not to be dismayed, to thank God as we receive His strength and for His help and to rest in His hands. It is a choice. Will you choose to believe, to be strengthened and rest in the His righteous right hand? Or will you choose to dwell in the muck and mire that may consume you?
I choose life. I am so very grateful for conversations with friends, for the honor and privilege of praying for and learning from them. I am so incredibly grateful as I am inspired by those around me who don't even know or realize in their humility that they are an inspiration. And I am grateful to my Lord and Savior for the blessings in my life that I have only begun to learn to fully appreciate. Join me...take courage for our God is with us. He will strengthen, help, and hold us up with His perfect, holy hand.
Make it a grateful day!!

Emblazoned Days

Think of a special day in your life that remains emblazoned upon your memory because of it's significance. You know you will never forget it because of it's impact. But why not make every day a day of significance? I must admit, there are far too many days that pass without reference because I failed to utilize them to their full. While I thank God for each day, sadly, I squander. Oh - what a waste to squander a gift so precious and rare - for it will not come again and I've no idea what tomorrow holds.
I will set out to bless and accomplish at least one thing that will emblazon this date in my heart! And as a reminder - you can't go wrong with 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a:
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8Love never fails.

Attitude of Gratitude - the Dart Test

Dart Test...

A young lady named Sally, relates an experience she had in a seminary class, given by her teacher,Dr. Smith. She says that Dr. Smith was known for his elaborate object lessons.

One particular day, Sally walked into the seminary and knew they were in for a fun day.

On the wall was a big target and on a nearby table were many darts. Dr. Smith told the students to draw a picture of someone that they disliked or someone who had made them angry, and he would allow them to throw darts at the person's picture.

Sally's
friend drew a picture of who had stolen her boyfriend. Another friend drew a picture of his little brother.Sally drew a picture of a former friend, putting a great deal of detail into her drawing, even drawing pimples on the face.Sally was pleased with the overall effect she had achieved.

The class lined up and began throwing darts. Some of the students threw their darts with such force that their targets were ripping apart.Sally looked forward to her turn, and was filled with disappointment when Dr. Smith, because of time limits, asked the students to return to their seats. AsSally sat thinking about how angry she was because she didn't have a chance to throw any darts at her target.Dr. Smith began removing the target from the wall.

Underneath the target was a picture of Jesus. A hush fell over the room as each student viewed the mangled picture of Jesus;holes and jagged marks covered His face and His eyes were pierced.

Dr. Smith
said only these words.... 'In as much as ye have done it unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me.'
Matthew 25:40.

No other words were necessary; the tears filled eyes of the students focused only on the picture of Christ.

Jesus said, 'If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you, before My Father.'

God is not very interested in our explanations. He knows why we do what we do. He doesn’t need our rationalizing. But God is a marvelous listener to our confessions.
AND TODAY – no matter how hard it may seem – called only to love one another and our neighbor as ourself. “[We] can do all things through Christ who gives [us] strength” Philippians 4:13
God bless and strengthen you today!

Attitude of Gratitude - A Beautiful Thing

Every time you smile at someone it is an action of love, a gift to that person, a beautiful thing.
MOTHER TERESA
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God and he who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love, does not know God for God is love. 1John 4:7-8
As people become irritated or unsettled in the heat and continued financial uncertainty – everyone trying to accomplish more with less - let’s show people who we are by greeting everyone with a smile. Who knows what the next person is thinking…. Their mind may be on a loved one in the hospital and so they bumped into you – or they may be facing the unchartered territory of a first year without a parent, spouse, relative or friend and are finding it bewildering. Let’s be God’s arms to reach around and love by using our faces to spread His love.
Remember… it may not be that another appears arrogant or unkind “on purpose” but we can sure “love on purpose.” It's a beautiful thing.

Gratitude when you hit the rocks

As I've gotten older and learned life's lessons toward peace, I've also become a bit of a tenderfoot. When it's smooth sailing, the path soft upon my feet with the wear of experience and rough road smashed down over time into a path of soft dirt, I become accustomed to the little dirt clods on occasion. But when the road becomes rocky with sharp edges, I'm startled by the pain and pause. To be honest, at that moment of pain, I have a hard time considering it all joy.
Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. James 1:2-3
It is necessary to consult a map - THE map (if you will) - so as not to make things worse or react in emotion born of pain, casting truth aside. God is with you. He is for you. And He will see you through this time for He will never leave you nor forsake you as a child of His and He will work all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. These are truths upon which you can stand fast during times of uncertainty and pain. In holding fast to them we can be assured of growth in our love, faith, strength and very witness. And as you express your gratitude for these very truths, you may find yourself rejoicing, yes rejoicing, even in the midst of the trials.
In this you greatly rejoice, even though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been distressed by various trials (1 Peter 1:6)
And the path will seem to smooth before you.

Grateful for Groanings & Great Friends

Of late I have become painfully aware that an event over a month ago has left a gaping wound in my heart. I've tried to forgive - indeed know I must - but the pain comes back full throttle every time I see those involved. For them maligning a friend seems to be all in a day's fun. While I was not at the event, I feel as though I was nearly drowned in the waves of the ripples that flowed from their not-so-idle gossip. I know it affects my demeanor and I certainly am not overflowing with the love of God toward them. Ugh!! I've come to the point where it is a struggle to even pray about it. I am, however, grateful - so very grateful for the Holy Spirit that dwells within, because as I cry out, He intercedes on my behalf...
In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; Romans 8:26

So, tonight I will pray - again - for resolve, for the ability to forgive, for truth to shine brightly and God to transact business with my heart for only He knows the hearts of all involved and God changes things.

So grateful...incredibly grateful for the dear, trusted ones of my life...my fellow sisters and brothers in Christ Jesus. You make my heart well up with joy at the thought of you and your witness. Thank you - for I do continually praise my God for you.

Figuring or Trusting?

Dissheveled, but feeling some of the calm….still wondering what tomorrow holds, I am often left disquieted with a bit of apprehension looming until I look skyward and nearly audibly hear the Lord whisper in my ear…..

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not unto your own understanding.
In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path." Proverbs 3:5-6

Oh that my faith was my first hold. I, however, am guilty of trying to figure out….explain or make sense in some way of an event. So I ask the Lord and endeavor to hold to my heart verses that remind me where my head, heart and understanding belong. So today I acknowledge that He has created and named me - knows me better than I know myself as He sees my innermost being… knows my heart (when I can be so misunderstood by others) and yet, He still calls me His own!!!!

Join me in the journey to "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not unto your own understanding. I count on your understanding from Him as well as He guides and directs you.

As we hit mid-week, let’s take a deep breath…"Trust in the Lord with all [our] hearts, and lean not on our own understanding. In all our ways, acknowledge Him, and let’s let Him direct our path."

I believe in you!!!

Trust

Have you ever been so taken aback by something so devastating that your knees nearly buckled from under you? Have you had to take time, quietly, in your heart to try to figure things out? Judging from recent news, I would imagine you have.

Luckily, we have a guide, directions to look toward - One in whom to place our trust and hope...our perfect Creator, Lord God Almighty.

Trust in Him with all your heart - He will never lead you astray or disappoint....or hide from you.

In thee, Oh LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. Psalm 31:1

The Voice of God

Lately the skies have been filling with clouds and sometimes yield amazing light shows, sunsets or just a sticky day. I must admit, I am often looking forward to the prospect of an amazing lightning display and accompanying thunder. I have always found the storms exciting, and if you will excuse the pun, electrifying. I am mesmerized and somewhat comforted as I strain to hear the voice of our Creator in the storm.

"Under the whole heaven He lets it loose, And His lightning to the ends of the earth. 4"After it, a voice roars; He thunders with His majestic voice, And He does not restrain the lightnings when His voice is heard. 5"God thunders with His voice wondrously, Doing great things which we cannot comprehend. Job 37:3-5
I love to stand in the midst of the blowing winds and pelting rain filled with wonder and wearing a smile.
Washed over by the rain - refreshed and renewed - awakened by the lightning and thunder. It is awesome!

We have the opportunity to do that everyday - as the clouds of sour economic news, unexpected health, job or marriage woes - we can smile take comfort in God's voice and even be renewed...we can stand in the belief that great works are at hand
which we cannot comprehend. With calamity all around, his health failing and misery at every door, Job held fast to his belief in Almighty God and His promises. He is faithful.

As the storms rage in our lives, His voice can be heard above the din, it is but ours to awaken and know that
it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13)I

I see thunderheads building in the forecast.....awaken and live!

Pure Gifts

Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. Philippians 4:8

Pure – without imperfection, innocent – unadulterated. When I see the shades of color in the sky – there is one that I’ve never seen successfully reproduced. My heart sings at the viewing and delights at the wonder of God’s artistry. As I view the blooming flowers or the cherubic face of a baby or small child…or the clasped hands of an elderly couple who have weathered many storms, but whose love is perfect in the moment….I stand in wonder.

Find that which is pure around you and revel in it…let it sw eep you off your feet and make you smile.

Speaking in Love or Just Telling it Like it is

There was a movie with John Candy entitled "Only the Lonely" where Maureen O'Hare (who played John Candy's mother) was always "telling it like it is." The problem was that she did so whether it hurt others or not...often the former was the case. She would point out "short comings" or "faults" of others that they were certainly aware of, but she had a talent for knocking people off their feet in so doing. She would leave them devastated and reeling from "just telling it like it is." While comedic in the movie setting (for the most part), it is not when we encounter it in our daily lives. Is there someone in your life who makes you feel like you are never quite good enough?

I would have to ask, "where is the love?" While speaking the truth in love may help someone to better understand themself and assist them in growing, "just telling it like it is" without regard for another's feelings is not love at all, but rather mean spirited and unkind. I am so grateful for our amazing Creator who tells us that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made...and that my soul knows it full well."

I am so glad that God believes in us and administers words of healing, and that He has taught us how to recognize those in whom we can trust with our heart by how they cherish and recognize that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. I am blessed each day to be told how much I am loved among other uplifting, wonderful things that help me to bloom in this world. It has not always been so...there have been times when I was so low, another "telling it like it is" from someone "close" to me would drop me. I pray in those times for you that you are able to draw from the rich resource of the Word and be washed over by the truth - that you are indeed fearfully and wonderfully made and that your sould will shine forth welling up from inside so that you DO KNOW IT FULL WELL.

Enjoy your day, indeed the week, and may God bless you and show you who "tells the truth in love" and who does not not in your own life. I am praying for you.

Plans & Dreams

Thought this would be a good time to remind you – At every crossroad – continue to follow your dream. Whether it’s hot, cold, muggy or mild outside – the dream you hold within should be sparkling in your eyes and give your face that beautiful countenance of light with a dash of joy as though you hold inside something just bursting at the seams to come out.

As we look to our friends – the spark can start a fire within them as well… and even to those with whom we come in contact.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11.

A New Day Dawns

Sometimes we find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, just trying to keep our footing in the sand that seems to be washing from beneath our feet, let alone trying to move forward….

Good news!! Today is a new day full of new challenges, opportunities and even a new friend or two. Remember – nothing today is by accident. There will be amazing people dropped before you for whom a mere smile will trigger a conversation or an elevated spirit in both of you.

Remember your big rocks – those items of greatest importance in your life. Get at least one in to your day today: it may be as simple as a phone call to a friend, getting in a work out, reading a chapter in a book, or simply planning your week or day for tomorrow. You will derive energy and a sense of accomplishment great enough to propel you into the remainder of your day and even tomorrow with a renewed sense of purpose, for there are great plans for you that have already begun.

Remember… dream big and each small step will account for more than you bargained for. Your legacy is depending on it.

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:5-7)

Gratitude in the Midst of the Heat

The heat is on this week with record temperatures that can wear on us physically and emotionally, but the morning brings a new, bright and amazing day filled with opportunities that can only be realized with the passage of time…. And time only comes my way but once, so I will endeavor to live this day well with love and kindness.

Truly, there is eternal value is in the way we greet a stranger, treat a loved one or a not-so-trusted one. The “things” will pass away, but our spirits remain.

I received this message on a calendar given to me by my friend, April. It is written by Thomas Chalmers.

Live for something…Write your name in kindness, love and mercy on the hearts of thousands you come in contact with… You will never be forgotten.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Colossians 3:12
So today, put on your best clothing - compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience and go out to meet the world. Perhaps in this wonderful frock, we will be quick to give thanks, to love, listen and show mercy. I'm praying for success in the attempt, but I know if I give it over to God, He is able and I am able through Him.

Let's go change our world!

Thanksgiving every day

"Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God just as he had done before." Daniel 6:10 Daniel's life was a practice of praise daily and lion's mouths were closed.

Imagine! What if we all expressed our gratitude to God at least 3 times a day. Imagine the concert of praise that could be heard in the heavens and the change that could be made right here on earth. As I've become more and more aware of the wonder that surrounds me each moment, the incredible gifts found therein, I take the time to express my praise and low and behold I am changed.

Won't you join me in choir of praise? Commit to 30 days and you'll be hooked...just watch those around you and how everything changes.

Change and a whisper

Change seems all around me these days and for several months. It's no use "waiting it out" for stabilization...I've been "on hold" in some ways and it's time to get on with living this day with all that it holds - even if on wobbly ground. As the change swirls around me I close my eyes and when I am listening, really listening, I hear that still small voice that says to me...."Be still, and know that I am God; …." (Psalm 46:10)
Another version says – “cease your striving and know that I am God;”
I love to hear that whisper to my heart, my very spirit. I am grateful for that promise today… and I am still in wonder at the beauty, the majesty of our earth and that the Almighty Creator of all of the Universe takes time to speak to me from a love that we can’t come close to imagining, but He calls us to accept. It is truly a miracle that in my infinitesimal being – He speaks to me, loves me and even knows my name. Miracle of miracles – He came here to save us… and I stand in awe – grateful, amazed, blessed and embraced.

A Temple of Praise

In the quiet of the morning or the bustle of the day you can create a temple of praise.  It takes but a single action.  Gratitude in the moment in and for the small things.  Sarah Ban Breathnach said Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.

Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? (1 Corinthians 10:16)

Our gratitude is holy.  It is showing our thanks for the very act that saved/saves us and there is so much we have to be grateful for…for clouds that change even as we gaze…for warmth of human touch…the scent of a flower on the air…the smell of fresh baked bread or grandmother’s perfume…the sight of one who cares.

Look today and see what you find in the moment you passed blindly by just the day before and be grateful.  You are here to enjoy this moment…that this time may not pass in vain.

Blessings in Disguise

This weekend I truly felt the words of Laura Story's "Blessings". More specifically...."what if your healing comes through pain... And what if the trials of this life, the rain, the storms, the hardest nights are Your mercies in disguise?" (I encourage you to listen to the whole song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOOFAaUGfRE)

We'd never have avoided a catastrophic event if not for a headache that took us to the doctor. As a result there were some very hard nights as a merciful and loving God healed one who might have otherwise met his end instead...mercies so amazing and such a blessing in disguise.

Do you find yourself going through a hard night, pain, or a storm in your life? Can you fathom that it is a blessing to be revealed at a later time?

In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire —may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. (1 Peter 1:6-7)
If you're going through one of these times, tell someone that they may know and come around you with prayer and support and then may join you in the praise, glory and honor when Jesus is revealed in the situation.

I am so very grateful for those amazing friends and family who shared in this great blessing in disguise. May God be glorified!

Encourage and Enjoy

Every day I am amazed at the excitement and joy we can bring one another.

When you happen upon someone who enjoys the same type of research or has a common experience or hobby, isn’t it funny how we light up and just talk and talk –learning from one another. Time passes quickly as we further explore our interests and gain new insights.

Truly – all of life’s discoveries, joys, successes and “aha’s” are multiplied in the sharing with another.

Ever see an amazing sunset all alone and wish there was someone there to share that moment? We were meant to live in community, to share in each other’s joy and sorrow. The energy derived from those encounters is evidence enough of that.

Relish those moments shared with another, but in those quiet – wish someone else was here times – be still. Listen. Those are also the times when “God whispers in your ear.” It may be an idea that you know did not originate with you – a thought – an encouragement, but do enjoy that moment, too. He wants to share in it with you for you are enjoying His handiwork.

But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. (Hebrews 3:13)

It’s a new day – smile – even if on the inside: it can’t help but work it’s way out.

Attitude of Gratitude - This is love.

I read an email some time ago that stuck with me. The wisdom of young 4 year old Billy in his innocence stopped me with its poignance....and importance. When asked what love was, he responded, 'When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You just know that your name is safe in their mouth.' Billy

Isn't that really what we all want...to know that our name is safe in another's mouth; that our absence isn't occasion for our name to be bantered about with speculation, rumor or inuendo?

Wouldn't it be great if we (believers) became known as those with whom your name is safe; that in the midst of this world we were able to convey scripture by living it out? But my mouth would encourage you; comfort from my lips would bring you relief. (Job 16:5)

Would those that know you say their name is safe in your mouth? Do our words bring encouragement and relief from the trials of the day?

Tomorrow brings a new day. I will seek to encourage and let the love of the Lord flow through me. Will you join me?

Temptation - Stand Up

So today you find yourself tempted to give in – it may seem harmless – but after all we are building a heritage/a legacy for others to see and say, “you made a difference in my life. You inspired me.” In order to do that, we must not give in, even to what appears to be the smallest of temptations – like participating in gossip, or giving an opinion where not welcomed nor invited, or supposing to know another’s motives in a negative light.

Don’t give in. It will change everything!

You are not alone. Others have been where you are and stood fast for much is at stake. Remember: No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. 1st Corinthians 10:13

I believe in you and there are so many that are watching your moves this very day to see how you handle the unkind comments of a co-worker, that trial at home or the casual onset of gossip. Be a peacemaker – be bold and faithful. There is a way to stand up keep your very legacy intact today.

And just for kicks – remember for a moment that person you aspire to be – the one God created you to be – and smile.

Here's a great song by Casting Crowns that is right on point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxwcGyaOr6Y&feature=related

Hope and a Future

Thought this would be a good time to remind you – At every crossroad – continue to follow your dream. Whether it’s hot, cold, muggy or mild outside – the dream you hold within should be sparkling in your eyes and give your face that beautiful countenance of light with a dash of joy as though you hold inside something just bursting at the seams to come out.

As we look to our friends – the spark can start a fire within them as well… and even to those with whom we come in contact.

So close your eyes for a moment – FEEL what it would feel like to have achieved your dream just now – let it well up inside of you – now go forward with your day, grateful for the achievement and taking one step closer to its fulfillment.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Amazing, Magnificent You

“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy.” Philippians 13:4

What privilege and joy it brings to my heart each time I think of YOU. I am often gulping back tears when I see you – where you’ve been – what God has done in your life. You bless me! Your spirit shines brighter than you know, and while we are hasty to see and catalogue all of our misdeeds, ills, faults and past – we miss that we could shine brighter, love more, and still realize the dreams and visions God has given us if we let those things slough off of us as old skin – retain the lesson, but lose the “yuck.”

It was shared with me once by a wonderful pastor friend that wounds of heart and soul heal. Sure, they are there.. but one day… they hurt less, then a while later they don’t hurt anymore, but the scar is still there. We’ll never forget because of the scar… but it no longer carries its pain and we can move on – loving better – into the world who has seen the wound and now your joy in moving on… and I always see a beaming, beautiful person emerging from the trial…. And I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy.

Have a terrific day! Let your light shine bright!

Friends Color Your Life Beautiful

For memory has painted this perfect day with colors that never fade…
And we find at the end of a perfect day, the soul of a friend we’ve made.
Carrie Jacobs Bond

Make a new friend or renew an old friendship today…. Bring life, hope and color to your life and the lives of those around you. Love one another - not just those you know, but those who are brought into your life as well.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. (John 13:34)

Keep Going to Overflowing

Some days you just need to keep going because you need to…. On those days, I count on this little statement/prayer:

“I believe that there will be a perfect outcome to every situation in my life because God is in complete control.”

I am so grateful that I do believe in God, that it is true that He created us in His image and that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” (from Psalm 139). Interestingly enough – it also says that “my soul knows it full well.”

Often I confuse how I feel at any given moment with the truth. So today I’m reaching for, grasping, hanging on to…. The truth.

I pray in those times for you that you are able to draw from the rich resource of the Word and be washed over by the truth – that you are indeed fearfully and wonderfully made and that your soul will shine forth welling up from inside so that you DO KNOW IT FULL WELL.

Enjoy your day and God Bless!

Challenges & Character

Often we are faced with trials in our lives. At first we are able to meet them with a positive attitude and a fairly confident feeling that this is just a “bump in the road” and all will be well in short order. Then, unexpectedly, we are faced with a new challenge and start to think…certainly I am to learn a lesson for my life in the midst of this “double whammy.” I’ll make the best of it and see what I how I can grow from it. While still grappling with this “trial” we are hit with another unexpected “opportunity for growth.” We may say – well, they say bad news comes in threes. That’s three, so I must be headed out of the woods now. But that may not be the case at all and we are to hold our heads high with thanksgiving for we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. Romans 5:3b-5 NASB

Whatever we are going through our situation is common to man. We are not alone, but can look forward with great expectation and courage to greater character on the other side…and even in the midst.

Look out beyond yourself to bless another today – yes – in the midst of your own trials and allow the love that has been poured out upon you to fall upon another. You may not even know about their trials, but what a blessing to them AND back to you.

Now go about your day seeking to bless and smile. J

Encourage One Another

Jean Paul Richter said, "Never part without loving words to think of during your absence. It may be that you will not meet again in this life."
What amazing words to live by. We are never guaranteed tomorrow. This year I have heard of more unexpected deaths of people who appeared to be healthy and were making plans that would take them well into their old age.

Were there words that haunted a friend with whom they'd had a spat, a relative with whom they no longer spoke over some imagined wrong? Is there someone that came to mind even as you read this? We must remember to "not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth." Proverbs 27:1 And because we know this, let us part in kindness, encourage one another, speak to one another in truth and love.

"Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing." 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Let's start this week off right!

Let Go in Faith

When you look outside, it appears as though a perfect day awaits. Some fluffy white clouds among the bright blue sky beckon us to “come out and play.” Things aren’t always as they seem. The heat smacks you in the face as you bear its brunt in the sunlight and entering your vehicle is like stepping into an oven.

When conflicts with people, a change in our business climate, the economy or just general problems bombard us, it can feel like the heat is on. Sometimes it can leave you feeling bewildered and wondering how to even pray. It is in those times that the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words (Romans 8:26);

Sometimes it’s hard to remember that we can literally “let go and let God.”

Let us trust that perfect intercession is taking place on our behalf. As the heat bears down, I am grateful for an amazing physical embrace holding me in utter contentment and for the inner embrace of the Spirit.

My song? ….Oh Lord, Let Your Spirit fall here. Wind from heaven blow.

Purify our hearts today, fire of heaven glow….

Manifest Your glory, boldly now we call.

Nothing else will satisfy.

Let Your Spirit fall.

I pray you are touched by the Spirit today in such a way as to know that God is with you, indeed the Holy Spirit will pray on your behalf and He knows your name.

Of all the "attitudes" we can acquire, surely the attitude of gratitude is the most important and by far the most life-changing. Zig Ziglar

Pray Dream Pray

Charles Swindoll said “There is no more significant involvement in another’s life than prevailing, consistent prayer. It is more helpful than a gift of money, more encouraging than a strong sermon, more effective than a compliment, more reassuring than a physical embrace.”
How many times do we look at a day ahead or a circumstance and try to “figure out” how we are going to make it work. Imagine me – a creation – thinking I can even see all of the opportunities, tools, etc. available to me…. When all along the Creator Himself has told us – you have not because you ask not. He makes all things work together for good for those who love Him. That’s ALL things. So while prayer is not tangible, it’s the most awesome way we can contribute to another’s well being. God in His amazing love, power and kingdom has ALL – THAT’S EVERYTHING at His fingertips and His plans are far greater for us than we perceive or can dare to dream.
So – open your heart, mind and soul. Close your eyes for a moment and remember your dream. Now – lay it at His feet…. And watch with wonder as He honors each step in faith as you walk toward the dream He has given you.
Blessings upon blessings to you today… and pray!
Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Living on Purpose

Some time ago I chanced to speak to a lady who was heading out on a cruise the following week. As we spoke she indicated to me that this was a trip she and her husband had planned to take, but, alas, he died two months after a cancer diagnosis several months ago and so now her daughters would be accompanying her. She continued to say that they had been married for 53 years at his passing. You could see in her eyes that she was looking to another place and time as she lamented, “where did the time go? We had 14 years of retirement together. But, my time has just flown by. Where did the time go?”

Today, my friends, is again, a new day. We have the opportunity to make this day different from the rest… a new day to work on how we will be remembered. Are we living our lives in such a way as to make each day count? Are we living “on purpose?” I aim to. I want anyone who knows me to be able to smile, even chuckle, when they remember me…. as a character, an encourager, friend and lover of life and those within it.

So today is my opportunity to smile – and no matter what the day brings – make it count – ON PURPOSE.

You gave me life and showed me kindness, and in Your providence watched over my spirit. Job 10:12 NIV

Today - let's show kindness, laughter and the light of love that comes from our Creator – remember that a smile can change your whole day – and someone else’s at the same time.

I can almost see your sparkling smile now.
